Interview with Sara – Let's Talk About Soil! - LiLac activity

Soil is a living organism - not just dirt!

Sara, a student of Environmental Protection at PULS, shared her inspiring perspective on the importance of protecting soil as a living organism.
She reminded us that soil is a non-renewable resource, which takes hundreds or even thousands of years to recover once it’s damaged.
In her words, “Damage happens much faster than recovery.”

She emphasized that soil is not just dirt - it’s a living ecosystem full of microorganisms and tiny creatures essential for biodiversity, water retention, and filtration.
Sara believes that urbanization and over-development are among the main threats to soil in her region, leading to the loss of natural spaces like local wetlands in Górczyn.

Still, she stays hopeful: even small, daily actions - like composting, buying local food, recycling, or using public transport - can have a real, positive impact on soil health and our shared environment.
